Northern Italy in 1957

On the year of my birth wonderful things were happening all over the world.

Ha! I am SO going to send this to my good friends who live in Lugano (on the Swiss side of the lake).

This was run on the BBC on April Fool's Day in 1957. They had many calls and letters afterward from people in the UK who wanted to know how they, too, could grow their own spaghetti.

Reportedly, the Beeb had a form letter that they sent out to answer such inquiries, advising any would-be British spaghetti farmers to "put a sprig of spaghetti in an opened tin of tomato sauce and hope for the best."
