Shameless Bragging

I just heard that I'm one of the 15 finalists for the 2007 Nikonian Photographer of the Year award. Cool. I'm amazed. My wife reminded me that she was the one that told me to stop and capture that image. Looking at the other nice images, I don't think I'll win. But it's pretty flattering to have made it to the finals.

Way to go.

Do they consider a photographer's whole body of "published" work, or only the photo displayed on the finalists' page?

There are a couple there that are "cute" but I can't see why their artistry/composition merits an award...

Weren't you up for some kind of award last year too?

No, it's just this one image that is judged. Yeah, I've won a few rinkydink awards for other images. But the Nikonians are the real deal.

Very cool! Hey, you didn't even use your new camera on that one did you?

Excellent. I really enjoy your work Jeff. Thanks for sharing so much of it. I held a D300 the other day -- hunka hunka burning camera. T'will be several years and a LOT of learning before I'm ready for that.

Impressive. Great job.

I liked most of the photos, but there were 2 that I really thought didn't belong.

I love the lighting and the ribbon effect in your photo.

Thanks, Clay and Jennifer.

Jennifer: which two? The thing you have to remember is that the 15 images you see have been chosen from a number of different categories. In other words, people submitted images in a number of different categories (nature, landscape, portrait, animal, macro, night, etc.).

The wedding and the soccer pictures don't belong...oh yeah, you didn't ask MY opinion, did you?

I really think I saw that picture in a calendar that was in my company's break room last summer. Did you get published elsewhere?

While it was a good photo, I thought the first one was too much like the famous National Geographic photo of the Afghan girl (Unless the category was "Most like another famous photo.")

Anyway, congratulations Jeff.
